Friends at Home

Friends at Home pairs teenage volunteers with children with disabilities for weekly play dates. Friends at Home is based on the belief that everyone deserves to have friends. Children with disabilities have many adults and professionals in their lives, but they are missing one important thing that teen volunteers happily provide: friendship.

Friends at Home provides children with the opportunity to bond with their volunteers in the comfort of their own home. Together, they play games, create arts and crafts, read books and enjoy other fun activities. Often, these visits become the highlight of their week as they excitedly look forward to the time spent doing fun activities together.

Teen volunteers complete an application process, provide letters of recommendation, and are interviewed before they are paired. Parents report great success in building their child’s confidence, improved social skills and overall happiness.

Our dedicated Friends at Home Coordinator will support families and volunteers throughout the entire process. The Coordinator tries to attend a visit once a term to ensure everyone is making the most from this wonderful experience.
